After more than three decades at the forefront of the UK events industry, Tom Clements has announced that he will step back from his executive role at Specialized, leaving the business at the end of February 2026.

Tom has spent 36 years helping to build Specialized into one of the UK’s most respected security and crowd management companies, co-founding and then expanding the company to its position today as a trusted partner for major events across the country.

During his tenure, Tom has overseen periods of significant expansion and industry change, alongside more challenging moments that have shaped both the business and his personal outlook. As he moves into semi-retirement, Tom has cited a desire to achieve a better balance between work and life, while remaining active in the industry he has helped shape.

Reflecting on his career, Tom Clements said: “After 36 years with Specialized, it feels like the right moment to step back from the day-to-day and begin a new chapter. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work alongside some outstanding people and to be part of an industry that continues to challenge, evolve and inspire. Specialized has been a huge part of my life, and I’m immensely proud of what we’ve built together.

Specialized will continue under the leadership of co-directors Kara Williamson and John Thompson, both long-standing figures within the business who are well known across the events sector. Having worked on the front line for many years, they will take the company forward with continuity, experience and momentum.

While stepping away from his role at Specialized, Tom will not be leaving the events industry. He will continue to serve as Vice Chair of UK Events and Chair of NOEA Scotland, alongside his ongoing involvement in a number of governmental committees connected to the sector.

Looking ahead, Tom remains committed to supporting the industry through these roles and maintaining close connections with colleagues and peers across events.
