Competitive socialising has officially landed in Glasgow as Bowlarama has opened its doors to its new downstairs ‘social sports’ floor complete with augmented darts, immersive batting cages and party bar.

To celebrate its opening, the innovative new entertainment venue will be offering a ‘Free Game Friday’ with the first hundred guests through the doors enjoying complimentary experience in Scotland’s first ever state-of-the-art immersive batting cages. Guests can choose from three interactive modes including baseball, cricket or tennis. Simply head to Bowlarama from 11am this Friday (23rd August) on a first come, first served basis.

Located in the newly expanded Bowlarama, downstairs from the late-night boutique bowling alley, the immersive social sporting and party bar is now open seven days a week, from 11am until midnight. Perfect for those team-building days out, or nights ‘out out’ for family, friends, and couples in the city centre.

As you enter, the immersion begins into the worlds of batting, bowling, and darts with nods throughout the venue to the various games it offers. With stylish and sporty interiors, and designed for optimum game performance, the comfortable bar has areas for those wanting to chill or compete.

Set to make waves in the Glasgow entertainment scene is the arrival of four state-of-the-art steel batting cages. As the first of its kind in Scotland, the revolutionary machine learning and augmented reality offers baseball, tennis, and cricket modes, ensuring players of varying sports preferences and skill levels can get in on the action!

Augmented darts offer even more immersive fun, complete with dazzling displays illuminating the target area. With cutting-edge technology, over 8 different game modes are available – so you’ll want to return to Bowlarama to try them all out.

Multi-activities can be booked for a seamless experience across the two floors. And you can bring family and friends together in new and exciting ways, with action shots being captured by in-lane cameras in the batting cages where key triumphs and losses can be rewatched and shared online.

For bowling lovers, the famous lanes upstairs have expanded from four to eight, with new and improved technology. Bowlarama scores a strike when it comes to having tailored neon lights per player, high-tech SYNC scoring, personalised image graphics, and of course automated bumpers for any novice bowlers!

Visitors can also enjoy retro arcade game machines, including Down the Clown, and thrilling two-player NBA Basketball Hoops games. Classic arcade game lovers can also expect Pac-Man, Street Fighter II and Pinball, alongside air hockey and the ever-popular Skill Shooter.

There’s also crowd-pleasing signature cocktails and shooters like the Miami Vice, Sexy Pitch and King Pin(k) Lemonade. Upstairs, the in-house restaurant has a brand-new food menu including burgers, wings, and tenders – we won’t judge if you think they’re too good to share!

Independently operated by the entrepreneur who launched Tiki Bar and Kitsch Inn in 2010 and Bowlarama in late 2019, Ian McColm explained:

We are delighted to open our doors today and welcome Glasgow back to our multi-floor venue. We hope that the innovative new social sports we have introduced downstairs will be as popular as our much-loved late-night bowling alley.”

It’s something new for the city and our investment into technology and user experience will allow competitive socialising for friends, corporate events, and family gatherings. Come and check us out – you won’t regret it.”

Downstairs at Bowlarama opens Thursday 22nd August, and is located at 20 Glassford St, Glasgow G1 1UL
