A series of high-profile youth events across the country will spotlight how young people can have a career in a ‘booming’ business events industry, according to the national tourism agency.

VisitScotland has launched its latest ‘year of’ campaign aimed at supporting a programme of youth events, ideas and activities that will give young people in Scotland a higher profile.

Led by the Scottish Government, the Year of Young People aims to inspire Scotland through its younger generation (aged 8 – 26) and give them a chance to express their views and celebrate their achievements.

It will also give VisitScotland Business Events a chance to shine a light on the country’s business tourism industry and the careers and opportunities available within the sector.

Throughout 2018, VisitScotland will encourage its industry partners to promote what their younger colleagues are capable of and inspire the next generation to understand and consider the industry as careers.

Neil Brownlee, Head of VisitScotland Business Events, said: “Business Events in Scotland are booming and we want to highlight not only how young people in Scotland can have a thriving career in the industry, but how important the industry is to the wider economic spectrum in Scotland.”

Business events, focussed on young people, already confirmed to place in Scotland this year include the TEDxYouth@Glasgow at the SEC Armadillo (31 May 2018), the World Youth and Student Travel Conference in Edinburgh (18 – 21 September 2018), as well as a series of events with a focus on young innovators during VisitScotland’s own talk series, “Innovate the Nation”, taking place throughout the year.

Resources and support for those businesses wanting to find out how they can work to further the interest of young people in the industry can gain support from Apprenticeships Scot, The Springboard Charity, Springboard ‘gems’ and Career Scope.

The Year of Young People began 1 January 2018. For more information, please visit: http://yoyp2018.scot/
