Edinburgh Castle will be lit up in a dazzling light show for five weeks during the festive season, it was revealed this week.

Organisers are promising a ‘world-class’ event when the castle is lit up by state-of-the-art ‘immersive’ projections from 14 November to 22 December.

Castle of Light will be the biggest light experience to hit the city centre, bringing together a consortium of the best digital and visual talent.

The event brings together for the first time Edinburgh-based consortium Double Take Projections, NL Productions, Andy McGregor Design and War Productions Ltd – in partnership with Historic Environment Scotland which operates the castle.

The creation of this world class event hosted in their home city within such an iconic building, will be a truly unique experience, set within the castle walls.

Gillian MacDonald, Head of Business Development at HES said: “Drawing on some of the finest digital and visual talent working today and based in Edinburgh, Castle of Light will be the biggest light experience Edinburgh Castle and the wider City Centre has ever seen.

“Using state of the art projections to create a truly wonderful, immersive and unique lighting experience within the Castle’s iconic walls, the event really will be something special to see and we can’t wait for people to come and enjoy it.”

Double Take Projections Ltd is an innovative Scottish design consultancy specialising in creating immersive visual experiences using a technique called Projection Mapping.

NL Productions is a creative event production company based in Leith with more than forty years’ experience in the industry.

And lighting specialist Andy McGregor has over 25 years experience as a multimedia artist, designer and creative director. He was a founder member of the art / dance music & performance group Fini Tribe and pursued this alongside a degree at Glasgow School of Art.
