The annual Granite City Comic Con festival is set to move to Pittodrie Stadium in Aberdeen for its fourth year, organisers have said.

The event, which is set to attract around 2,000 comic book fans, shifts to the stadium’s Richard Donald Stand for the festival onSaturday 26th and Sunday 27th May next year. The event was held this year (as well as 2016) at the Hilton Treetops with guests such as Robert Llewellyn, Star Wars actors Garrick Hagon and Paul Blake, alongside  Judge Dredd creator John Wagner. In 2015, the first year, it was held at Transition Extreme in the city.

In 2018,  the event will become a ‘weekend of gaming, demonstrations and prop making workshops. A series of talks and Q & A sessions with TV, film and comic book guests are also planned’.

Chris Robertson, Co-organiser of Granite City Comic Con, said: “Team GCCC is really excited about bringing our event to the Richard Donald Stand at Pittodrie – it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to grow and offer more geeky goodness to our attendees. Our 2018 show is set to be bigger and better; and working with the team at Pittodrie we’ll be hosting a weekend of great family friendly superhero fun. We’ll have lots more announcements to come about guests, attractions and activities.

He added: “Although we had two very successful events at the Doubletrees by Hilton in 2016 and 2017, we felt than in order to grow and offer our audience more, we needed to move onto a more central venue with everything under one roof. We’re really excited about the scope of what we can with the space in Pittodrie.”

The Granite City Comic Con at Pittodrie will be managed by the stadium’s in-house team from Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events.
