The team at St Andrews University have launched a ‘Can do initiative’ to ensure that students do not miss out on University events this year.

In compliance with Government guidelines the team have split the University marquee into four pods with capacities varying from 21 to 30.  One of the pods is a dedicated area where up to six students from two households can meet, and the others have video equipment for presentations and demonstrations, allowing societies to be able to meet in person.

Not forgetting students who are unable to travel home for Christmas, the team are arranging a number of events in the ‘Can Do Marquee’.  The Events and Operations teams are on site at the marquee daily and all of the events are pre-booked to ensure health and safety compliance is met.

Events taking place are going to include Wreath Making, Beach Activities with Blown Away and Silver Ring Making. They also plan to host a Blitzen Brunch on Wednesday 30 December in St Salvator’s Quadrangle, which is open to students, staff and the public, where they can enjoy brunch and also see the reindeer.

As well as arranging all of this, the team are celebrating their Deputy Director, Marianne MacKinnon who has won an miaList2020 individual award.

Out of eight successful winners across the UK, Marianne was the only Scottish winner.  The award was given to individuals who have gone above and beyond in the meetings, hospitality and events industry and supported their teams.

She was also recently included in the Women In Tourism Top 100 that was announced in November.
