An incentive tour hosted by Scottish Destination Management Company (DMC) Spectra has won international acclaim.
The experienced DMC started with a brief of hosting 200 people, but the programme quickly expanded to 700 plus guests, totalling 1,400.
Scotland was chosen by the client because of its history, hotels, charm and the collaboration between suppliers, and the logistical challenge was heightened by the fact the group tour commenced at the start of the Edinburgh festival season.
Guests were greeted in the traditional manner and a busy schedule was activated which included visits to top city attractions including the Royal Yacht Britannia, Edinburgh Castle and The Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Traditional estate activities were also staged at four of Scotland’s finest stately homes: Thirlestane Castle, Dundas Castle, Winton Castle and Hopetoun House all hosted house tours, afternoon tea, and assorted activities including falconry, carriage rides, 4×4 driving, clay pigeon shooting and croquet.
In terms of logistics, the DMC had to coordinate 1,400 visitors across six hotels, involving 250 coach movements, more than 160 private car transfers, with over 60 staff laid on to cater for guests. In addition, not one bag was misplaced despite having to handle 3,500 pieces of luggages involving 20 baggage vans.
Spectra received a SITE Crystal Award for winning the award category Best Destination-Based Experiential Incentive Travel Program, for the appropriately named programme, It Doesn’t Get Better Than This.
