A Metallica concert at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow has smashed the venue’s attendance record, according to an audit of audience figures.
The legendary American heavy metal band attracted a crowd of 12,935 last Thursday, beating the previous record set by Ed Sheeran in 2014.
The sell-out concert, which was delivered in an ‘in-the-round’ format, maximised the capacity in Scotland’s biggest venue for live entertainment, which was “delighted” to welcome the US rockers as part of the UK leg of their worldwide tour.
To mark the occasion, SSE Hydro staff presented each band member with a bottle of the finest malt whisky.
Debbie McWilliams, Head of Live Entertainment, Sales and Ticketing for the Scottish Event Campus, said: “We were delighted that rock legends Metallica have broken the attendance record for concerts at the SSE Hydro since we opened our doors.
“The fans and the atmosphere were amazing – particularly with the in-the-round formation. Metallica has set the bar high.”
