InterContinental Edinburgh The George is a collection of five, fine Georgian townhouses that were originally built in the 18th century but the property has been a grand hotel, historically known as “The George Hotel”, since 1881.

Over the past two hundred years, in the New Town area of Edinburgh, this elegant building has seen literary legends such as the iconic Scottish poet Robert Burns and author Sir Walter Scott and one of the townhouses was even home to Scotland’s answer to Jane Austin – Susan Ferrier. Over time the buildings changed in use from gracious living, grand insurance offices, artist’s studio and now, the stunning InterContinental® Edinburgh The George.

Following a multi-million-pound refurbishment in 2019, the architectural detail of the Grade II-listed building is complemented by original detailing and elegant interiors. Just a few minutes’ walk from Edinburgh’s most popular attractions, finest boutiques and renowned restaurants The George is known as one of the city’s best hotels

All our rooms take their colour palette from 19th century Scottish landscape paintings: from Highland glens to forest ferns and mountain heathers. Cool in tone but materially rich, the rooms provide homely comfort with luxurious furnishings.

As much as we want you to enjoy all the delights our wonderful city has to offer, you cannot miss out on our inviting options to dine here at InterContinental Edinburgh The George. The Printing Press Restaurant and Bar offer stylish drinks and a modern take on the best of Scottish produce, whilst Burr & Co. provides a cosy rendezvous, serving comforting coffees and irresistible homemade cakes.

Our meeting and event spaces range from boardrooms and private dining rooms to the magnificent King’s Hall formerly the banking hall of the Caledonian Insurance Co., and a stunning location for meetings, corporate entertaining, weddings, and social events.
