Gleneagles has announced two senior sales appointments as the iconic Perthshire property sets out an ambitious strategy to strengthen its presence in North American and European markets.

The appointments were announced following the completion of an extensive two-year investment programme, which has seen Gleneagles undergo a complete transformation – to enhance the guest experience, create a ‘Glorious Playground’ of countryside adventures for its guests, and reclaim its position amongst the finest hotels and sporting estates in the world.

Jane McGee, formerly Director of Sales & Marketing at Fairmont St Andrews, has been appointed as Gleneagles’ Commercial Director, with responsibility for all aspects of the hotel’s revenue, sales and marketing strategies.

In her previous role, Jane, who brings over 25 years’ experience in the field, had responsibility for repositioning the Fairmont hotel after a multi-million pound refurbishment programme.  The Dundee University graduate was also previously Regional Director of Sales at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, where she led a successful strategy to grow international business.

Jane said: “I am delighted to be joining the team at Gleneagles – which is recognised globally for its warm Scottish hospitality, its unparalleled facilities, and its glorious playground of pursuits.

She added: “It’s an exciting time to arrive, at the completion of what’s been the biggest investment project in the hotel’s almost 100-year history.  We’ve set an ambitious goal to strengthen our profile on the global stage – and I look forward to contributing to the realisation of that vision.”

Gleneagles has also appointed Ashley Thomson as its new Director of International Sales, with responsibility for the North American leisure and European MICE and leisure markets.

Glasgow-raised Ashley, who been at the hotel as Scottish Regional Sales Manager for the last seven years, will be focusing on developing relationships with key agents and travel partners across the USA, France, Germany and Switzerland.

Prior to joining the Gleneagles team in 2011, Ashley held sales roles at MacDonald Hotels and Radisson Hotel Group for almost nine years, having gained a degree in Marketing and Hospitality at the University of Strathclyde and completing a graduate training programme with Radisson Hotel Group.

Ashley said: “It’s a fantastic time to be developing my career at Gleneagles, and I cannot think of a more exciting brand.

“Gleneagles is a destination like no other. From its world-class golf courses and award-winning spa to its country pursuits and Michelin-starred dining, I couldn’t be more proud of where I work.”

Conor O’Leary, Gleneagles’ General Manager said: “Gleneagles has always enjoyed welcoming guests from around the world and Jane and Ashley’s appointments will help us grow that international recognition.

“Scotland is one of the most beautiful countries in the world – its fascinating history, rich culture, spectacular scenery, warm hospitality and incredible range of leisure experiences making it an appealing destination for overseas guests.   Gleneagles represents the very best of all that Scotland has to offer.”

Jane added: “Ashley and I are really excited about developing our partnerships and meeting as many clients as possible – and look forward to sharing everything we know and love about Gleneagles and our home country, Scotland.”
