Duns Castle has hosted famous actors and sports stars including Dame Judi Dench, Sir Billy Connolly, Kristen Scott-Thomas, Joseph Fiennes, Rutger Hauer and Robbie Fowler.

The Scottish Borders venue continued in that tradition last month when it welcomed a group of 45 international guests and media to celebrate the ‘German celebrity wedding of the year’.

Actress-singer-presenter Caroline Beil and husband Philipp Sattler, a dentist, apparently had their hearts set on a Scottish wedding venue and travelled to the country in February to scout a location.

They chose Duns Castle for its discrete setting and as well as its natural surrounds, onsite accommodation and bespoke activities.

Guests enjoyed an ‘immersion’ into Scottish culture with a kilted rehearsal dinner accompanied by a whisky tasting, Address to the Haggis, Gaelic Toast and bagpipes as well as a tournament on the Duns Golf Course using old hickory golf clubs.

The couple even had their wedding rings flown to them by an owl during the ceremony, ‘much to the guests’ delight and amazement, according to the venue’.

“Since exclusive publishing rights had been awarded to the German social weekly Frau im Spiegel” explains Jonathan Findlay, Business Development Consultant for Duns Castle, “we have kept the exciting news to ourselves out of complete respect for the couple’s wishes. We now have permission to share the news and are also hugely grateful to Philipp and Caroline and indeed to the photographer Andreas Blumenthal and Frau im Spiegel for these wonderful images.”

The event took place on the 5th and 6th of September and among their guests were a number of other “international celebrities”, all of whom contributed towards the enjoyment and wonder of the occasion with performances of music, song and comedy.

With a very busy season of back-to-back weddings behind them, the team is now gearing up for the Castle’s 700th Anniversary celebrations in 2020.
